The Corner StoresA Poem by ROXANE DORSEY
FDA, do da job! Wise up, crack down.
Wack da Alcohol & Pharmacy, it's a bust. Calling Mayor, City Hall and or Gov. now hear this: I know how the city goes. "You pack'd a good punch", "I turned the other cheek". Yet can my people recognize disparity? Black neighborhoods are intentionally blinded by individual self. Trails n tribulations are for everyone. Dats Life! Altered minds pay a price. Alcohol & Pharmaceuticals, Da New Norm. Society thinks, "Ah it's ok". til it kills in some way. Like Alcohol legalized back in the day, mak'n its mark on history still get'n a man's pay. Bar hop'n for booze. Now its a pharmacy in every way next door to the Gin Man Liquor Stores. Around the corner every other block. Who questions the stock? Retail Sales & Proceeds goes in their foreign pockets. Like greedy little green creatures needing the fresh smell of the American Dollars in their possession. By All Means, At any cost. In my Town, too many corner stores, liquor stores and pharmacies for neighbors during the day, disappear at night. Rarely bring their children to play or plight. Our store neighbors take our money, sell us their goods. Patronize the Proprietors who help destroy our communities. Inch by inch, slowly n slowly, Its Da norm. Change of ownership to skip taxes ? years exempt. How long must we endure, closed mouths never get feed properly. It reminds me of a quiet storm making a huge impact once it hit home. Someone once said, "Where there is no unity. the people shall perish". The writing is on the wall around my way!
