Street kids

Street kids

A Poem by ROXANE DORSEY

Picture the neighborhood I once knew.
Years beyond years I've out grew just like my shoe.
Forever you'll be in my heart.
Your streets groomed a girl n prepared her start.
Every clean gutter, clear alleys we kids walk'd,
ran & play'd.
Those were our stages.
No matter da ages, we played without wages.
Kids had a part in making hearts come together.
Anywhere we road bikes, jumped rope, hopscotch
and more.
Those were the days.
Oh how the children play'd.
Not today, it's all gun play & cries and parents don't
know why.

Today's parents are yesterdays kids and we DO damn well know the "whys" - we lived them and only sometimes survived them. Angers breed SILENCE 'til the ROAR explodes forth.
