In my opinion

In my opinion

A Poem by tvisa parmar

Stood there watching as they burnt her alive
She cried and cried, begged for mercy
but none came for her rescue.
Tied to her husband's funeral pyre
She realized what it was to be a woman.
In my opinion,a woman is a half formed thing
The other half is killed even before she realizes.

Told by her mother that she was worthless
The seeds of self doubt were sown when she was a mere child.
Always envious of her brother, secretly wished she was a boy
Daddy's princess was mum's burden.
Now, as a grown up she hides her trauma and covers it with a smile.
In my opinion, she does the right thing
Because no one is as brave and strong as she is.

Who cares what my opinion is
They do as they please.
Kill her even before she is born
Kill her everyday as she lives'
She will eventually die one day
but they will continue to live......

Too many cultures allow for the open denial of a woman's rights. India casts aside widows as if it were their fault. Western civilizations have come a long way, but us 'old white men' are still in charge. All hail the president who's name should not be spoken!
