Home is Where the Heart is

Home is Where the Heart is

A Poem by TTBoy28

The body went home

 and left the heart behind

Fear and desperation and loathing

met the Welcome Sign on the interstate

and life began without a reply to a thank you

given after receiving change back for a twenty dollar bill

Fourteen hours on a road with longer faces

 no traces of serenity

only solemn and passive voices that know their

 space will be invaded

Yet the body trudges on dreading the appearances

of what was once so delightful and not-so-challenging

pleading for a visit at a time

never knowing their offer would be accepted permanently

And upon arrival the body said, "Hi"

 and so did theirs
