What color am I?

What color am I?

A Poem by TTBoy28

You may see me on any given day

in sweatpants wearing no underwear while walking my dog

Although I am clean

you cross to the other side

You may see me in the grocery store

sliding a food stamp card through the machine

Although I am clean

you just shake your head in shame

You may see me in the bank

asking for my balance and overhearing that I am overdrawn on one account

Although I am clean

you try and talk over me to get assistance

You may see me at the Post Office frustrated

trying to pick up a package

Although I am clean

you constantly clutch your purse and fan yourself as you sweat

You may see me at the gas station

only putting five dollars in my tank

Although I am clean

you hurry to get back into your car to avoid speaking to me

You may see me at church on Sunday

with my hands folded, head bowed, sniffling

Although I am clean

you want to feel sorry for me

You may see me on any given day

sitting on a bench without a briefcase and feeding the pigeons

Although I am clean

you think that I am homeless

You may see me at the Unemployment Office

taking the next number to be assisted

Although I am clean

you wonder how I got the job

You see me every single day

What color am I?
