To-do List

To-do List

A Poem by T.S. Ulmus
"

Just a mundane list of stuff I need to do

"
I've got a lot to do today,
here's my list:

-establish a paramilitary organization
-exercise demons at the train station
-mask my insecurities with laughter
-ponder what will come after
-defy the unflinching banality
-retry my dry reality
-pick up oatmeal
-whisper the truth
-drip blood
-inform the youth
-kiss the door to the molten core of passion
-score more than my lowly ration
-grow an extra eyeball (or two)
-go down the hall for a better view
-make another dimension hairy
-translate my obituary (to Latin)
-find a gilded calf to fatten
-scrawl a squall on the wall of my cell
-call the fall of a coin flip in hell
-evaporate the proletariat
-look up the word "proletariat"
-sup on the marrow of hedonism
-dream of the mechanisms of gnosticism

Well, I'll probably just get the oatmeal.

lol. very clever. that's quite a list. it's just as well, you'd probably have trouble finding the oatmeal but at least you could die healthy - that other stuff will kill you ... :)

so I bought this exercise contraption "the perfect fitness, ab carver pro roller" which i'm going to just let sit in the Amazon box just one more day....This I promise. Added to my "apple cider vinegar-lemon-honey" morning tonic and my 'deep breathing' daily regimen . F**k it! I'm dizzy already. Whatever. Your poem pokes fun at our flattering resolve, yet never lets our humor off the hook. And this is exactly why Plath used assonance as a sacred offering. It's easy to believe that plans can just 'get started' when in actuality, "doing" has it's own noble province. Your amazing.....dana

Wonderful. Sounds like a severe case of 'procrastination'..! I think the whole idea is so clever, the rhythm is lovely, there's humour in there too, and I love that the only task from your list that you'll likely end up doing is the least colourful and the most ordinary one of them all. Sounds like the mind of a creative - full of wonderful ideas but not necessarily tangible ones. Great read!

You're right.. :D
A fun~ness of more or less possibilities, perhaps accompanied by a side salad of thesaurus. That said, you've tried to trick the serious with tongue in cheek wit.. like that. Fine writing, different.. re.readable.

The idea behind this is fantastic! It's funny while also shedding light on the conflict between our wildest (emphasize wildest) hopes, dreams, and fantasies and the dull demands of everyday life. Oh, and I always love a good rhyme. Thanks for a great poem!

Well... while my vocabulary might not be as broad as Barleygirl's... I still find this poem to be quite amusing. (I'm honestly trying to sound smart right now, lol) I think one of my favorite lines would probably be, "-evaporate the proletariat
-lookup the word 'proletariat'"
I loved how you said you needed to do something to something you didn't even know what it was. (That sentence made absolutely no sense to my dumb mind, but I hope you understood the point I tried to make)

I also like how there's only one normal thing there. Well, two if you count, "-mask my insecurities with laughter" that's something I find myself doing on a daily basis/whenever I go out in public. I really liked this one.

100/100 ofc

I'm glad my review bought you joy :)
Your rhyming is imaginative, sophisticated, & top-notch. Your list is several lightyears more orbital than the list your intro prepped us to expect, a nice touch of ironic fake humility. I can definitely feel some playful progression in your way of messing around with your storyline (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
