A Mistake

A Mistake

A Poem by T.S. Ulmus
"

A call for Justice reform

"
Your honor,
There must have been some mistake,
they was alive when I buried 'em
in the meadow near the lake.
So there's no need to condemn
just for a crazy sense of law.
Sure, I bound 'em and covered 'em up,
(Maybe did some work with my chainsaw),
and I still have some blood in a cup,
but they were livin' I swear.
I ate a few bits with spicy ketchup,
I just don't see why you should care
or try to say it is my fault
when clearly I am not to blame.
One spit at me and that's assault.
No one can refute my claim
they was breathing when I tossed the dirt.
Let's quit this hoax for goodness sake,
maybe they was slightly hurt,
but clearly these charges are a mistake.

Of course I can properly conjugate the "to be" verb, "they was" is a thematic choice.

Reminds me of how some are trying to wallpaper over the recent Capitol riot (& a million other social outrages) by blaming Antifa (& a million other boogie men). Maybe Antifa killed this guy in your poem after the narrator buried him (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Funny how human rights are big on the agenda when the criminals shout "not fair. Stop picking on me", yet it never crossed their mind where the victim was concerned. We are a complex bunch, aren't we?
Just read this morning the U. S. are preparing to execute the first female in 70 years. Perhaps a bit of reverse sexism there, but don't say I said or I'll get hash tagged to death 😊

The hilarious and the gruesome form a quite unlikely twosome, but this it may be said. "humor is best by sorrow fed: comedy is naught but horror bled."
