Impressions of Fall

Impressions of Fall

A Poem by T.S. Ulmus
"

It's actually a love poem, she knows for who it was writ.

"
Impressions of Fall
The Autumnal pageantry of dappled blush,
accented by the carnal and sanguine,
murky lurking apricot and bittersweet.
While the gusty dusty lamenting breeze
from the scarred and morose ceiling
carries tempered loamy subtlety
to the mossy anguished timbers.
Hideous and and wondrous are unveiled
from vanished verdant hues.
Citrus wishes long since expired
for the chittering fattened fauna
who bring their flora into chilled hollows
the bones of nature laid bare
Soon only the shivering firs
will cast their defiant hues.

This poem seems to function as a good precursor for winter, which I guess fall is. Enjoyed it.

And as I read the last lines in deepest winter, my eyes flicker back to those citrus wishes long since expired, craving autumnul chill as much as anyone ever wished for bikini weather or even the first signal of spring approaching. ⛄

One of my "issues" in poetry is using imaginative color words (beyond primary colors) & this is what arrests me right off in your poem. This is a powerful account of that autumn sensation of "falling in love" . . . like crunching bones & slurping up the marrow . . . that's how this writing strikes me. Take a phrase like this: "loamy subtlety" (of which there are many in this poem) -- it not only intrigues, but it feels & sounds good rolling off the tongue. Love your alliteration thru-out ("fattened fauna") plus the random internal rhyme ("gusty dusty") -- taken altogether, these poetic devices are judiciously spilled for maximum mind seduction (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
