A Poem by T.S. Ulmus

Thanks,
It was nice pretending someone could
love me
for a while.
Though really it is not my style
to be accepted.
And I much appreciate your time
but understand I was rejected
Feel in no way bad,
the outcome was expected.
And while, of course, I'm sad
to be alone, dejected.
It was nice pretending for a while.

That spirit of rejection is a heartless beast. I wish that feeling on no one.
You have captured the wayward soul. The want of it, but the endless ticking of the clock always keeping said soul in check.

yeah, it is a strange feeling to be standing in a room full of people walking by without noticing me.
it is now an epidemic som say...

Now this one... goes with 3 A.M. coffee while you sit listening to electric hum and background tics of live passing.

One line missing ...can't we be friends?

I can relate to this poem, TS. As can many I assume. I find that when we lose out in relationships we tend to have a sense of gratefulness for the experience we were given, even as we are engulfed by overwhelming sadness. Its a strange phenomenon. Like we were never worthy of the love and we knew we would be abandoned at some point. The opposite is true of course; we are all worthy. Its just the way we process the loss, i suppose. I am sure there will be others gifting you their love. An excellent contribution. 💛

I love this poem on a few levels. I love it at face value, as a clear image of a person who automatically resorts to self-recrimination, sixteen seconds after someone gives him/her a compliment. I love this poem as a round-about "he's really not that into you" way to get a person to back off. I did this all the time in my wildly independent youth, telling guys I'm worthless, let me warn you, step back for your own safety! But also I love this message for the way you teeter-totter on the fence of sincerity & sarcasm, your delivery is precise & exquisitely satisfying! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
