An ode to Basho and Euler

I am surrounded by people
that never heard of Basho
of Euclid or Euler, Archimedes
Shakespeare
Have you heard of f*****g shakespeare!
Sure they all know Einstein
"He was some smart guy right?"
Laplace, Descartes, Monet
These are not obscure names
Geiger, Cicero, Homer, Plato

It's human culture!
Freud, Watson and Crick, Gregor Mendel
Patton, Standing Bear, Methuselah
Kevorkian, Himmler, Chairman Mao, Twain
(Samuel Clemens)
They are not trivia night at the bar

If you don't know these names
But can name the Kardashian sisters
Probably don't talk to me.

I have to beg to differ. While I do agree -- I have nothing in common with anyone who's ever watched ONE EPISODE of Kardashian ANYTHING, I also feel you are a bit haughty & judgmental to say mainly classical artists are the ones we must know & recognize if we ever hope to be somebody in your eyes. I, for one, wander around the cafe entertained by so many name-dropping intellectuals who try to mystify the hillbilly likes of country folks who may not give a rat's a*s about Shakespeare & Freud. I spent my life doing outdoor adventures, like riding my bicycle across the USA when I was 32, so I'm more familiar with outdoor enthusiasts who've thrown down some serious storylines which might not be recognized by those who thump the classics. By the way, I've read a fair number of classics just to keep me honest, but I'll take an adventure writer any day! I actually loved your nasty-gram & I was spoilin' for a fight anyway (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Archimedes was a badass. He's one of my favorite thinkers of antiquity. Math is POWER!

Math is the language of God, so knew Pythagoras. Thank you for your review and the read.
Should I be grinning at those three final lines ! Sometimes' it is easier in the mind to' know the headlines than the editorials. This is definitely a tongue in cheek intention with a specific lesson in the process. Fine readin - if not cynical and oft times called.for observation!

Blessed be a kindred spirit, and don't feel bad if you don't know every last name. Yeah, it's a bit .. read more

You're very welcome. In fact I do know most of them and others!
Well done, I appreciate crafted sarcasm more than any other art form, save irony.

Assy, Skinny, Bratty.... Uhm, Dopey and Prancer?
You hit the nail on the head here. I'm not saying it was the reason I left working in offices, but there are people who think glossy gossip mags and books are all the same thing. Then each morning reenact the previous evenings reality tv show like it's an episode of CSI.
I honestly expected to see a comment saying "Basho? Wasn't he the other Marx Brother?" 😀
I do admit to only knowing all their names begin with K, probably because Mommy didn't know you could turn the pages of the baby name book.

Well spoken T.S. Too many people are more than well aware of the Kardashians ... most likely with the exception of Robert ... than know who the historical people named are ... more's the pity ... which is why the world is most likely doomed to repeat history.

Take care ... be safe
