Dancing

Dancing

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

We are dancers
Life is just one big musical
All the world’s a stage
Even she completes a stately pirouette
Around a fiery disco ball...
The stars are the audience
Eyes twinkling in mirth at our contortions
Or glistening with silent tears
At our tragedy.

Life is a dancing competition
And the Judges adjudicate
We turn out and perform
To whatever tune they play us
Upon the strings of Fate
Some dances mesmerise them
Yet others are waved away impatiently,
Consigned to the abyss of oblivion,
That deep and dark Backstage...

Life is a dancing competition "
See how our limbs gyrate!
Until the very sweat
Drips from our convulsing bodies...
But the Judges soon lose interest
And the tune must be cut short
The Director changes the scene
And the actors must exeunt...

Life is a dancing competition
We dance to Fate’s tune
We dance with all our hearts
As if our very lives depend on it...
