Shew Thyself, Mosquito

Shew Thyself, Mosquito

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe
"

Confession - I never got it...

"

Shew thyself, mosquito!

Thou yellow-bellied knave

Ere break of morning, thou or I

Shall be laid in their grave.

Shew thyself, mosquito!

The light is as dark in my eyes

And warmth as cold, and water; dry

Whilst thou art still alive!

Shew thyself, mosquito!

By my honour, I lay

That only one ’twixt thou and I

Shall live beyond to-day!

Shew thyself, mosquito!

Why dost thou use me thus?

I knowest thou art out there,

Mine ears doth hear thy buzz!

Shew thyself, mosquito!

I shall touch not bread, nor dew

Until my trusty slipper

Hast smote thee through and through!

Shew thyself - Ha!

There thou art, thou villain!

Take this! - and this! - and this! - and -

My, that will leave a stain…

funny! I can so relate-you hear that infernal whining that they do in your ear, but they are so good at hiding when you turn on the light and try to kill them. They like to drop to the lower part of the wall, if that is of any assistance the next time.
This was really well written, I liked the archaic English, I felt I was reading from an old English anthology....kind of had the Shakespeare thing going on. Loved the second stanza especially,....so dramatic!
