Keeping Time In The Celestial Dance

Keeping Time In The Celestial Dance

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

It’s time to change the calenders
Earth has completed her stately dance
In the celestial ballet
Around her fiery lover -
And hardly anyone will mourn
The passing of the year…
The days, they fly like lightning bolts -
Gone in a flash -
As madame Earth dances passionately
Increasing the vigour
Of her pirouettes…

Today’s but an amalgam
Of a thousand yesterdays
Which must melt, too
Into an alloy of tomorrow
We love, we live, we die
And time passes by…
Time, that great robber -
Thief of joy and youth…
Cities and Thrones and Powers
Rise, and flourish, and crumble
And all that remains is memories.

As Madame begins another revolution
And another pirouette
And we make our resolutions
And seto our year’s targets
Don’t forget to enjoy it all
Every minute, every second
Because it’s not coming back…
So wake up; smile!
For, after all, what is life
But an endless dance
A perpetual pirouette??

Nice work....like the second stanza where you speak of the present, past and future.....it really highlights how "all the world is a stage and we are the players"-
it keeps us and our lives in perspective, a certain humility as to what our place is in this world.Yet you also drove home the point we need to enjoy each day, for it will not pass this way again.
setto...two t's, not one.Great poem!

Well said. I always admire the way you capture countless thoughts and craft them with such artistic brilliance.
