...For Tomorrow We Die...

...For Tomorrow We Die...

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

Live a little, sometimes

’Cause people die all the time

Let your hair down

Why are you always wound up so tight

Like a mechanical clock?

Like,

‘Dude, they have batteries for that nowadays!’

You’re too uptight

You’re stifling, like a high tie -

You need to loosen up.

Have something to drink for crying out loud!

Get your a*s on the dance floor

And start crying out loud!

The night is young, and we are stars

We get brighter - watch us flush!

Who are you to stay sober

And sombre?

There’s a spirit in this bottle -

A genie who grants wishes

Soon your low spirits

Will be spirited away…

Let yourself go, once in a while.

Cast off your inhibitions

Cast aside your carefully-constructed mask

Scream at the top of your lungs

Because you’re living, ’cause you’re young

Don’t mind anyone

Just let your spirit run…

We drink to the morning after

The night rings with hollow laughter

The crack of dawn brings daybreak

And reality rises with the sun…

Even he knows

We won’t be young forever

So let’s celebrate our beauty -

We’ll only be hot

A little while…

So now revel, ignoring

The emptiness of morning

All happiness is tinged with bitterness

Regret is Life’s aftertaste

And such is the lot of man…

?

Well said. An interesting viewpoint expressed in free verse. Your lines are packed with wit ,had me cracked up all through. The last lines just worked for me.

'So now revel, ignoring
The emptiness of morning
All happiness is tinged with
bitterness
Regret is Life’s aftertaste
And such is the lot of man…'
