Jealous

Jealous

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

I’m jealous of your pillow

Where lies the silky hair;

Which holds your pretty, resting head

Like Morpheus’ bosom;

Of how it frames your lovely face

And caresses the silky locks;

And counts every single dimple

Of your night-smiles...

I’m jealous of your lip balm;

That you rub over your lips

Daintily and carefully

Like a tender, loving kiss

Of how it spreads over your mouth

And tastes, sometimes, your tongue;

Ever-present on your lips

Where I so long to be!

I’m jealous of your diary;

Wherein lies your very soul

’Cause I want to know everything -

Absolutely everything -

There is to know about you;

Of how it has unlimited access

To your thoughts, to your mind;

Of how you open up to it so effortlessly...

I’m jealous of your clothes;

Of how they run their fingers

Over your skin as you put them on;

Of how they can always feel your warmth;

Feel your heartbeat, unimpeded;

Jealous of how you need their touch

How you welcome it, how you deem it

The most natural thing in the world...

Positively jealous.

This is yet another great piece from you. Free verse married with remarkable a remarkable choice of words. Plus the vivid images formed in the reader's mind with every word is simply appealing.
