A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

0.9...

She was as a foreign creature
Wonderful daughter of the sky
I didn’t know how to speak to her "
I stammered, I spluttered, I fumbled for words
I didn’t know how to soothe her, to caress her...
I just sat there, amazed
And more than a little fearful
Lest in a fit of treachery
She should toss us off her proud back
And spit us out into the deep
In disgust, at my ineptitude...

20.7...

Though we had, over the hours
Got to know each other, a little "
Still, we were little more than acquaintances
Though my confidence was building...
Still, I could not be trusted
With you, all by myself...
Till that sunny afternoon
It was just you and me
You: roaring and powerful;
Me; cautious and trembling...

75.7

After that, our wedding afternoon "
When you carried me over the threshold "
Our relationship hit the rocks
I still didn’t have the measure of you "
How to read your moods;
Gauge your attitude
By reading your ‘body language’
Things which are instrumental
To any relationship;
Our relationship took a steep turn "
Sometimes you were so proud
Turning your nose up
At my feeble attempts to understand you
You and your... high nose attitude...
Whenever I put my foot down
You sent my head spinning...
So my approach became more...precautionary
And I learned to navigate
The intricacies of your psyche
You opened up, let me in
And I was flying on wings...
And I had earned them.

100...

And this, our century
A milestone of our achievements
Through calm and stormy weather;
Through turbulent times;
The tracks we’ve walked together;
And the paths we’ve got lost down
And we didn’t know where we were heading...
No matter the scrapes we got into
We, thankfully, have a knack
Thus far, and without fail
Of always coming back...
I see on the horizon "
Even if it’s artificial "
A long, prosperous future.

Earnestly I pray:
May I never see the day
That; setting out together
We come back not that way.

Here’s to another 100,
And another,
And another...

This is a rare and unique write Alvin. Not that I expect anything less from you but your words are heavy and your flow is awesome. You've ever tried to express yourself but are unable and someone else does it and you're like "YES,YES..." ? Well, this is what I was feeling while reading this. You're completely not just an ordinary writer. Thank you for sharing this.

'No matter the scrapes we got into
We, thankfully, have a knack
Thus far, and without fail
Of always coming back...
I see on the horizon "
Even if it’s artificial "
A long, prosperous future.'

This lines further extended the smile on my face. Keep them coming!

I'm VERY proud of you man, though i never say it enough CONGRATS! May the next 100 turn into days and the days into years.

I just loved the beautiful metaphors you seamed into this.
"Though we had, over the hours
Got to know each other, a little "
Still, we were little more than acquaintances
Though my confidence was building...
Still, I could not be trusted
With you, all by myself...
Till that sunny afternoon
It was just you and me
You: roaring and powerful;
Me; cautious and trembling... "
