A Dream Within A Dream

A Dream Within A Dream

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe
"

Inspired by Poe

"

Sometimes I think and feel

That this life is so unreal

And my conciousness would seem

But a dream within a dream…

So quickly goodbye follows greeting "

The moments are so fleeting!

And the Present doesn’t last

But dissolves quickly into Past

When we’re happy; how the moments race!

And tear along at furious pace

To turn our joy and happiness

To memory and nothingness

Transform that sense of belonging

To emptiness and longing

Until those days so wonderful

Are but reflections in a murky pool

And the sweetest days of mindless youth

Leave a bitter taste in toothless mouth

The days, they disappear like steam

I try to make them last, I scream!

But, like trying to catch in your hand a beam;

Is trying to clasp a passing dream…

I try, I find to my distress

My fingers close on nothingness…

I realize to try is a mistake

And dread the day that I must wake…

Is all that we see and seem

But a dream within a dream?

I think Poe would really love this piece.
Until those days so wonderful
Are but reflections in a murky pool...
You really had great lines packed with meaning throughout the poem. NICE WRITE.
