Two Skies

Two Skies

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

There are two skies, now

One above, and one below

And we are caught in between

And the clouds could be the mayo

To this sandwich.

There are two skies, now

One above, and one below

The one below ripples

Little waves on a canvas

The other stares at us

Through a fiery Eye.

There are two skies, now

One above, and one below

Keep this up long enough

And soon, I’m sure, ’twixt sky and sea

I won’t know which side is which

Of this sandwich…

After reading this a couple of times, I have a question: Is this supposed to have a particular rhythm/rhyme to it? I only ask because some parts rhyme while others do not. This makes it a somewhat tedious to read. Also, the repetiotion of the first two lines in each stanza seems to be a bit much, and for me they lost their value after the second stanza.
