Whatsername

Whatsername

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe
"

Green Day have a song called 'Whatsername' on American Idiot'...I like that song :)

"

I came across a picture

Stored somewhere dark and deep

You stared into the camera

Your eyes boring holes in mine

Your teeth glistened

Like the bleached and whitened bones

Of a skeleton in my closet

And I stared for a full minute.

It came to me in bits and pieces

Like a slowly unfolding jigsaw puzzle

It came to me in fits and starts

Like an old, sputtering engine

The warm hazel eyes,

The soft, pink lips

The long, silky black hair

And I shuddered.

It came in flashes

Like camera-captured scenes;

Tight embraces

Stolen kisses

Exchanged promises

“Till tonight do us part”

But I couldn’t, for the life of me

Remember your name.

She went away

And I took a different path

Now all that I have of her

Is this old photograph

I remember the face

But I can’t recall the name

Now I wonder how Whatsername has been…

Comparing his smiles to bones was kind of cool/creepy. I like her you remember the face but not the name! I do that all the time xD Very good poem!
