Insurrection

Insurrection

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe
"

What do you make of it?

"

Bodies -

Yielding;

Souls -

Untamed.

Bodies -

Prostrate;

Souls -

Unbowed…

One day we’ll rise up in revolt

One day we’ll reclaim our own.

We’ll line up in protest

And stage a demonstration

And no violence shall dissuade us

No plea, no remonstration.

They say that words are weapons

Using that hypothesis

We’ll line up with more arms

Than Hindu goddesses

And no threat, no promise

Shall make us shiver

In the face of all the fiery arrows,

Still we shall never quiver.

We’ll take back the control

Insurrection in our brains

Arresting all our thoughts

And our wills shall be detained

Then we’ll look over these words

That long ago were wrote

When our chances of seizing control

Were doubtful and remote

When we’ve chased this miscreant tyrant

From our hearts and from our minds

And these dark days of bondage

Have been left far behind…

That day could be today -

But never tomorrow;

For tomorrow never comes

Haven of lies and promises hollow

That day could be today,

Regain control and never lose it

That day could be today

If only we would choose it.

Author's Note

Alvin L. Kathembe
2nd Stanza reads a lot like a section from 'There's An Angry Mob Here To See You, Your Majesty'
I wrote this before and borrowed from it for that piece.
