On An Oppresively Hot AfternoonA Poem by Alvin L. KathembeToday the Sun was scorching hot We stewed like carrots in a pot We burned black as forgotten toast Our skins turned crisp as chicken roast. Today the Sun, it burned us bad And drove us all stark, raving mad We jumped in rivers off bridges And chilled with ice cubes in fridges. The Sun’s rays burned like chemicals The women took off all their clothes And all the men who were near there Forgot the heat to stop and stare. Dear Sun, whate’er we did to make You angry " forgive our mistake Don’t wipe us, like sweat, off Earth’s face Sincerely yours, The Human Race. © 2011 Alvin L. KathembeReviews
