The UnwantedA Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe-We are; A collection
of castaways An unwanted
generation A constellation
of ex’s Like a
congregation of the Nation; We are
the unwanted.
We are;
A flock
of black sheep Or,
the set-to-the-left goats The b******s,
the accidents, The spawn
of wild oats; We are
the unloved.
We are;
The stone
that the builders rejected Blotched
portraits no painter could fix For our
condition there is no solution - We’re
the oil that refuses to mix. We are
the anomalies.
To the
disappointment our teachers, To our
parents’ consternation We became
deviant creatures We grew
into aberrations. We kept
whole the minds They tried
to lobotomise; Now we
are beyond their help We,
who kept hold of our Self - Thus we
gain notoriety And face
the cold shoulders of society For birds
of a feather together keep And sheep
will flock with other sheep And offer
nothing but scorn and prayers For
those with fleeces not like theirs…
We are
the defective mannequins That life’s
factory has begot Left
upon the rubbish-heap To rot. © 2014 Alvin L. KathembeReviews
