Unquenchable SparkA Chapter by Alvin L. Kathembe15/07/2011 For a Phenomenal woman. She must have the broadest shoulders - She has borne so many loads. As her dream burnt out and smouldered, She fanned, and stoked mine with coals. She’s tenacious as a lizard - Though all her hopes grew cold and dark; She kept some glowing embers And hid them in her heart. She’s patient as the breeze - She blew, night and day; She huffed, and puffed, and huffed, and puffed Till the hearth was set ablaze. She’s the driver of a steam train - She will never beg, or grovel When the fire’s glowing low, no! She just reaches for her shovel. © 2014 Alvin L. Kathembe |
