Palsy

Palsy

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe
"

2 a.m.

"

We stand,

Twitching to the music

It’s like some nervous tic -

Jerk and twitch to the beat.

Or sit, heads undulating

With the wave and the synth;

Yeah, go on, bob your head,

Rude buoy. -

- Desperately afraid of being found out

Casting anxious sideways glances;

Frantically staving off the suspicion,

The question, the accusation -

“Are you having fun?”

Of course I am! You answer

And just to emphasize

Your convulsions double

In their intensity.

“That was so much fun!”

You sigh in relief, leaving

“Yeah, we must do this again, soon!”

Still shivering with the final spasms

Of the Saturday Night Fever,

The TGIF palsy…
