DaggerA Poem by Alvin L. KathembeLove and marriage in the Age of Aquarius
All of our dances
Are little romances Each move nothing less Than simulated sex. Every one of your gyrations Is a little flirtation Every little smile; A device of your wiles. My self-control withers Before your come-hithers Your every glance a temptation, A tantalization… Drenched in alcoholic showers, This wedding of ours; The courtship of the dance floor Left me with my pants sore We got married at the bar - Our vows a hazy slur - Joined by the reverend bartender In between shots of jäger Attended by clouds of kush, and mushrooms; And consummated in the bathroom. Honeymooned back at the bar And then we blacked out in the car… The stars fade above us; And Tomorrow soon comes calling At midnight - fawning lovers: Strangers in the morning. Your face is like the moon; So mesmerizing at midnight! But when the crack of dawn brings daybreak - So unremarkable a sight! The sunrise brings remorse, Tomorrow brings divorce - And you can keep the kids - I can’t wait to drop you off And then get home and wash you off… …but now the moon is out again And I’m out wherever’s happening So I spot this lovely little thing Dancing all by herself. She whispers “Let’s get drunk!” While she’s grinding on my junk And just like that - with some Dutch courage I’m on my second marriage… One day I’ll wonder where my youth went. © 2014 Alvin L.
