Words Are Wind

Words Are Wind

A Poem by Alvin L. Kathembe

Words are wind
To fill our sails
To propel our skiffs
Across this lake called life
The right ones can get us
Out of the dreary doldrums;
Or stir up a storm of words -
Set our minds a-whirl
In a hurricane of ideas
Illuminating clouded thoughts
With flashes of imagination.

Words are wind
Harsh, biting, gusts
That bite right to the bone
When a wordsmith's art
Hits home;
Or a morning breeze; dispelling mists
Clearing fog, disproving myths
Making things as plain as day.

Words are wind;
They lift minds that are laden with ideas
Helping the formless inklings
To collect and collate together,
To precipitate into something solid
Bringing relief to the land:
Words are the wind that bring the rain
That washes away the filth.
