Ivory TowerA Poem by Alvin L. KathembeI wield untold power in my ivory tower Surrounded by my bodyguard army Duke in my little duchy, where nothing can touch me Nor invader come near to harm me.
In my tower on high my all-seeing eye Controls all that enters my lands Refusing admission to all information That might shatter my frail ignorance.
All round my empire, walls tipped with barbed wire Keep reality far from me Pampered by my nurses, my rose-tinted glasses Show me the world I want to see.
I heed Mufasa’s orders, and never leave my borders The irony’s plain to see; Though my home’s built on death, the world beyond my
fence Is the elephant graveyard to me…
