Lament For A MosquitoA Poem by Alvin L. KathembeIt's been a while since I wrote in meter. This is a dirge for the unwitting mosquito, who only wants to suck your blood.I weep
for thee, mosquito Coarse
thread hath Klothos spun thee! From thy
very first instance All
creatures hate and spurn thee.
Thou
singest from a glad heart And
dance for joy; thy capers Far from
entertaining us Make us
roll newspapers.
Thou
thrice-accursed mosquito! Doomed
to know but hate and spite! Struck
by a heartless slipper In the
flower of your life!
What
wretched lives thou livest From
your birth, until you fall; Born in
a putrid cesspool And
impaled upon a wall!
No time
for introspection! Nor leave
to catch your breath! Every
time you light to rest Your
enemies seek your death!
We
cannot question Providence Or ask
Lachesis why she chose That
some be born as man-larvae And
others as mosquitoes… © 2013 Alvin L. KathembeAuthor's Note
