Don Al-Leone Goes To WarA Poem by Alvin L. KathembeA tale of blood and honour.Mosquitoes, they show up at my blood bank Like, “Hold up, it’s a hold up White cells where I can see them - See, the mosquito net is broken And the repellent’s gone AWOL So now me and my friends are about to make A very large withdrawal So don’t try to be a hero All your defenses are bogus So do just as I say and Fill up this proboscis!” With their boot full of booty And drunk upon their sins They’d left the engines running On their getaway wings Buzz! Buzz! They buzz away “You won’t get away with this one!” Screams the bank manager, gets the phone And rings Don Al-Leone. “Whattt?!!” the mobster splutters As his minion spits and sputters “These guys, they come and rob my bank And expect me to forgive? They cross Don Al-Leone And yet expect to live? C’mon boys, we’re going To teach a lesson to these raiders Put them slippers in the trunk And roll up them newspapers I swear upon my everything That before I do the dishes Every last one of them Will be swimming with the fishes!” Well, it was a bloodbath You couldn’t call that a battle They were so fat they couldn’t fly away, They exploded like tomatoes The slipper went - pap! Pap! Pap! So trusty were the aimers That the walls of the room Looked like Jigsaw’s torture chambers Thus the transgressors Came to the bloodiest of endings When the Don rose up And exacted terrible vengeance - He left their bodies on the wall As a sign to all, To admonish, to warn; Don’t mess with the Don… © 2013 Alvin L.
