Poli-ticks

Poli-ticks

A Chapter by Alvin L. Kathembe
"

Disillusioned, Disenfranchised

"

Wolves in sheep’s clothing

Promise, yet deliver nothing

Wolves as shepherds clad

We call them leaders; we are mad

They’re washing hands and gurgling

Vultures overhead are circling.

Universal suffrage - licence to suffer

License to choose the thief who’ll guard the coffers

No matter whose face is on the campaign advert

It’s really just a choice between anteater and aardvark

So run little termite; run and hide

’Cause he won’t stop till he sucks the whole anthill dry.

Quacks claiming that they’ll heal us but their nostrums damn us

I foresee a dark future call me Nostradamus

The old poison gets voted out and adorned with medals

And their faces adorn all our notes and metal

Only to vote in a whole new crew of devils

And the cycle comes back around like bicycle pedals…

So I don’t waste any time on these buffoons -

Wanataka tu kumanga - Japanese cartoons

So even when I buy the paper I don’t read their news;

I just read it back to front - Japanese cartoons

So next time there’s an election, no matter the selection

Just know the system’s dysfunctional like no erection.

U dig?
