Prose poetry makes total sense, I've wanted to do something similar but thought it would not work, you have obviously put it to work hard! You've inspired me to try some. I'll review each poem now, deep breath

I read some 'proper' prose poetry before I started myself, and as time went on (it's been less than a year) I found myself getting better. Each time I came up against a road block I read some of the published stuff, and eventually I overcame the problem.
As my status says, I am busy for a month (marking exam scripts), but if you drop me some Read Requests I will be very happy to check out your own attempts.

Now, I imagine it's no secret that the simple addition of line breaks can make any formless mass of text look like poetry. Witness:
Oh look,
here is a sentence
that,
cut up,
takes on more of a rhythm which
(even without rhyme)
looks like it has more to say.
Find out about prose poetry showed me that I don't want to rely on this trick for too long.
My current status thingy is: "We were going to make a million dollars manufacturing objects we had seen in dreams that night," which is a line from some prose poetry by Charles Simic. You can find it amongst six other prose poems here.
Obviously, it would also be useful to - as ever - check out Wikipedia. However, my favourite description of prose poetry is this:
The prose poem is a type of poetry characterized by its lack of line breaks. Although the prose poem resembles a short piece of prose, its allegiance to poetry can be seen in the use of rhythms, figures of speech, rhyme, internal rhyme, assonance (repetition of similar vowel sounds), consonance (repetition of similar consonant sounds), and images.
I'm trying to write some and would like to have it done soon after I return from my holiday, so see ya then. I'm so interested I might even run a competition. I'd like to see some more prose poetry around here, it's fun and weird.
Here's another one to get ya going:
The Riddle of the Sphinx
Sometimes, sound asleep, she lets out cries, foetal and almost unutterable, rousing you into sudden listening. The riddle of the sphinx must have been posed like this--howled--moaned--wept. You listen intently for an instant, try to decipher the inconsolable hieroglyphs, then embrace her without thinking. Shadow of a bird of prey passing, the unnamed sadness dissolves --in silence--or sometimes is repeated in the deafening howl of a delivery truck stalled in early morning traffic.

I've not been able to give this site, or my writing, any attention for too long. But half-term is coming up soon and I would gladly repay any reviews in kind.

Hope you enjoyed reading 'em, by the way. Have you written any prose poetry yourself?

Yes mam. I have a fiction book in the form of prose poetry coming out in a few months.
