Harvey DentA Poem by AtlasReconciliationTwo hands of two minds. Just take one and find A person at the other end. Take the right and experience me. He'll smile as pretty as he can, Pinning the corners of his mouth to walls for you With a wet face. Take the left and experience me. He'll smile pretty enough to catch your eye, Pinning you to the wall when you slow down. Like his scaled snake tattoo, he'll wrap around you. The man on the right will cry for you. He'll sing you a song or two like sweet citrus forgotten by Mouthfuls of water swimming down your throat. He looks for tarot cards at Sunday mass and smiles at God. The man on the left dries his face with the demons he wears On his silk, black tie. He'll want more than his time Will allow him. He looks for a disillusioned face among the faces That look at him and wraps his thumb around their throat. The man on the right holds your hand through gray 21st century conversations. He won't hurt you But he will hurt himself for you. He holds his words Tightly to his lips until you come for them. The man on the left washes his face with the acid Remarks you left behind for someone else's tongue. He keeps Each word wrapped around his fingers and wears them like Rings. They leave their mark, red and blistered. The men meet every day, measuring out the rest With coffee spoons. They talk of their personal politics Overwrought with the thoughts of one another. Their coffee black Conversations close with a nod of the head and caffeinated smiles. © 2019 AtlasAuthor's Note
