For the Love of Mami Wata

For the Love of Mami Wata

A Poem by Tiffany K Charles

His name was Captain Ra Bashie, owner of the Mami Wata

The Goddess of the 7 Seas.

She gave no mercy to man or crew; there was no ship she hadn’t pillared through.

His mighty vessel rode the waves, a phantom's midst of the ocean's graves.

Her bow cut deep with every swell, where souls of drowned seamen dwell.

With the heart of oak and will of steel, the captain faced the ocean's zeal.

But when the storm's fierce eye would wane, the whispers came to speak her name:

"Mami Wata, queen of tides, whose song the darkest depth abides.

Claim your due from those who dare to cross your seas and strip them bare."

Yet Ra Bashie, undeterred by myths and legends he had heard,

Set sail to ends where maps turn blank, his fortunes with the Goddess sank.

For in the deep, where shadows play, the sea-queen's voice began to sway,

And there, his fate was tightly spun between the storm and the sun.

In twilight's grasp, beneath the moon, their dance began a hallowed rune.

Where water’s goddess met her match, the captain’s soul was hers to snatch.

Together now, they roam the seas, a spectral ship that none can seize,

The Mami Wata was at his side, forever in her deep embrace, his lovely water bride.

And so goes the tail of Captain Ra Bashie on his endless water ride.

Legend beholds the grim truth of the captain and vessel that roams the Oceans so free.

They say you can find his gold at the bottom with the souls 20,000 leagues under the sea.

Beautiful, wonderful dear Anna. A wonderful tale written. I have seen five seas of the world as a soldier. The sea filled with mystery and secrets. I did enjoy the story in the poetry. Thank you dear poet for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Interesting love story of a Sea Captain and Mami Wata, the African Water Goddess. Great work here.
