Young Harlem GirlA Poem by Tiffany K CharlesJazz PoetryYoung Harlem Girl Swinging to the beat of Duke Ellington's sound, A young Harlem girl getting ready to go out. Dressed in her finest, red lips and high heels, She sways to the rhythm, feeling alive and real. Summer nights in New York, so hot and so bright, The city that never sleeps is a true jazz sight. She walks the streets of Harlem, a smile on her face, Her spirit was so free, like a bird in its place. She hears the horns and drums, the beat of the bass, And knows that tonight she'll be dancing with grace. With a flick of her hair and a twirl of her dress, She's ready to shine, ready to impress. In the clubs and the bars, she'll dance to the sound, of Louis and Ella, her feet never touch the ground. She'll laugh, and she'll sing, with joy in her heart, For this is her city, this is where she'll start. So join her on this hot summer's night, Let's dance and feel alright. For she is a young Harlem girl, with a spark in her eye, living life to the fullest, with a swing in the sky.
