Old Friends

Strange how we are talking
A delayed trip dowm memory lane
But the road is long and we are walking
Some of these memories sound insane
Talking like the old friends we use to be
For a moment I almost forgot
How close you were to me
Now all i remember is how close you're not
Though these memories are of you and me
We are nothing like these friends
We changed more than anyone could see
Grown out of the connection this memory sends
From memory to memory
Some are blurry
Others like a well written story
If wrongly told, could bring fury
Talking like the old friends we use to be
They seem to be taking us back
To a time when you would talk to me
Back when friendship isn't something we lacked

This poem is something I can relate to. I have a best friend who has been my best friend for more than 3 decades now. But we only actually had constant contact with one another in person for the first 10 years. He's in Colorado now and I'm in Washington. We stay in touch and will always be best friends, but it's not the same as when we both lived in Southern California and did everything together. We even worked together.
