On This Earth

On This Earth

A Poem by Another Relic

"This planet you call Earth....
Tell me, what is it like?"
~
"It's a complex universe,
filled with joys, creation,
amazement, but also horrors.
~
It's where life can be lived for
as long as a hundred years,
or denied in months by choice.
~
Its history includes brutality,
barbarianism, mass murders,
assorted violence, and Holocausts.
But it also includes celebrations, great
achievements, and inventions."
~
"And the ones called people,
what are they like as individuals?"
~
"They are as diverse as the stars.
They can link like chains in groups
in thought and beliefs.
They can be altruistic, benevolent,
and display nobility.
~
Or...
~
they can destroy others of their own kind
out of frustration, fear, or prejudice.
They can be selfish and deceptive;
they can be monstrous and end the lives
of innocents. They can be corrupt
and unfair."
~
"And this Earth.... it is considered worthy
of existence?"
~
"As all planets are."
~
"And what of this God?
What is He?"
~
"He is.....or He isn't.
It is a choice of belief.
It is a choice that has led to
the death of so many."
~
"So tell me, would you live
there on planet Earth?"
~
"?"
