I Know Who You Are

I Know Who You Are

A Poem by THWebb

I Know Who You Are

I know who you are,

hidden deep behind the many

walls you have built.

Lost, alone...scared.

Yes, I know who you are.

My love has journeyed far

within your labyrinth

where you've securely tucked your soul

away like a small frightened child.

My heart aches for you,

my love longs to heal your wounds,

but I know who you are,

the path you have chosen to walk.

The early morning weather mourns with me,

my saddened spirit wrapped softly,

safely in the chilly morning fog.

The train rumbles wearily in the distance,

heavy with its load,

unable to stop.

The whistle moans,

echoing in the shadows in anguish.

I know who you are

because I see what you try to hide.

Away from me you travel,

down this road you have chosen.

A lone tear escapes the sorrow

that my eyes reveal.

The memory of holding you in my arms.

Deep within you the longing

I could feel

begging for salvation

to a place where you could rest.

I know who you are

and because I know I let you go.
