Freedom of Love

Freedom of Love

A Poem by Zach Gordano

When the thousands of soldiers marched
Their untrained, inexperienced asses off
Across Europe and the Pacific
To rid the world of imperialism
Did they give up the fight?
Even before that
Did the young libertarians give up the fight to a Motherland
Of downright, wrong oppressiveness?

The American people have a way
To never stop fighting
For cause that they truly believe in.
They never give up.
Failure is not an option.

I am an American.
I am a soldier,
And I want to be free.
Free of worrying,
Free of danger,
Free of fear.

Everyday my nerves never stop running.
Like a soldier in fear of his life being taken,
I am in fear for my life as we know it.
As we loved it.
As we loved each other.

You fight for your right to be you,
To be true...
To yourself and your loved ones.
To be real, to be right.
To come and go as you please.
As an American, you are given these liberties.
You do not have to fight for them.

And who said we have to live the "American Dream"?
Let's live our dream
That's still well and alive,
Fresh in your mind,
Your mind where nobody else can enter,
In the storage closet where your true feeling for me
Are being boxed in at the moment.

Take a look at what this is really about
And ask yourself,
What were you fighting for the whole time?
Is it really worth fighting for?
