A Fairy Tale

A Fairy Tale

A Poem by Zach Gordano

Once upon a time,
Do you remember when I was an ugly, worthless frog?
Do you remember when you kissed me,
And I turned into something I never thought I was?
Into the all-loving soul,
Well hidden beneath the layer of battered flesh.

Do you remember when the spell was broken,
When you kissed me?
And your beauty was the only reason I woke up every morning?
Because I sure do.
And your beautiful soul, so nebulous,
Is the only reason why I continue to arise.
Because once upon a time,
Our love was what fueled our existence,
Together.

Now separate,
It's the blue sky dream
Of us floating together on Cloud Nine
That brings me through each day.
And, although my fantasies are unrealistic as a fairy tale,
So was the time I spent with you.
It is the hope that a reverie can be reality.

Once upon a time,
You will come back to me.
Once upon a time,
I envision us in love again.
Once upon a time...
