Will This Place Remember Me

Will This Place Remember Me

A Poem by T. F. Rice
"

For Abby

"

Will this place remember me?

For years, I clipped and cared, planted flowers

   everywhere I dared,

before we were gone.

We have since moved on.

Passing by sporadically,

I have wondered: will this place remember me?

Maybe every spring

there will be a holiday:

The flowers will throw a grand parade.

They will pop up, smile, wave to me in the wind,

and I will be so happy to see them again.

Credits: Initially published in "Wyoming Writes: Seasonings For Life", an anthology of Wyoming County, NY writers (2002). Dedicated to Abby "The Faery Lady" Sparling; you can see more of her faery houses on the following site. She was an avid gardener and was kind to the "little people" on her land.

I hate commenting on poetry, especially by poets who are obviously better at it than I am.

This for me paints a wonderful picture of the subject and brings her character to life in my mind. She reminds me of my grandmother. Her garden is now a block of units but I still remember her even if the garden can't.
