River of Words

River of Words

A Poem by C.T. Bailey

All I offer you,

all I can give

is an endless river

of words, cool waters

for your thirst.

You drink of me,

until your lips

taste mine,

until a cascade

baptizes the heart,

until the miles

seem as meaningless

as the past,

and with secret eyes

we look upon

one another

from across

the sandy river shores

wishing to cross

but fearing we drown.

This is what any form of literature does to me. I sip each drop of word and munch on it until I get full. But then again, I have never been sated. If one fears from drowning in such a river of words, he won't be able to see the beauty that lies ahead---the ocean of words. Great write!

Beautifully expressed longing. Felt in the reading. Nicely penned.
