The Office

The Office

A Poem by C.T. Bailey

The Office

These halls are steeped with idiots and creeps;
All day long they utter about the other's wrong;
They're all right and in their words they delight;
In others they fault, themselves they exalt.

Climbing the ladders of men's backs they chatter;
Lighting their path with their deeds of wrath;
To waste are laid those who may break their haste;
Deceivers and liars, they bow to their sire.

Closed doors not lying, giving proof of spying;
Their colleagues and peers think none of it queer;
The Good having eyes are always seeing the lies;
But the end will be quick for most of the sick.

With the Good spent, this leaving the indecent;
Tearing at each other, they shall eat their brother;
The ladder they climbed is now on their behind;
One is bested by the other, now all look for cover.

Then with rumors great, the idiot's all speculate;
Their sire for whom they toil, has sold all of his soil;
Seeking retirement says he, alas has retired all of thee;
The Good of whose fate the creeps now relate.

Tis' funny you say how even with some delay;
How justice is dealt, though we knew how it felt;
Wonder says I of all the creeps who lied;
Would they ever again make fool of the Golden Rule?

All the scratching and clawing...bugs the sh*#! out of me. Reading this I felt like shouting, "When is enough...enough!" And why is the bar always higher? Don't people realize that reaching for the ceiling constricts the floor! Sooner or later the whole darn thing gets too thin to support its own weight.

Too much emphasis on quantity, and not the quality and contentment of life. You showed it well. In the fight for self-interest, everyone eventually suffers including the one who began the journey.

I for one just cherish the quiet moments in live.

So very nicely done!

I'm sure glad that I chose raising kids instead of working in that office. Nice work.

haha!
What ever happened to going to work
and .... well.... working!
lol

Wait...
I'm at work right now
and I'm reviewing your poem. um.. lol

Seriously, every place I have ever worked has this
exact same issue! From bartending to paralegal --
and everywhere in between -- it's all the same.

Such unhappiness with selves...

This is a great piece!!
I found it oddly amusing.. lol

It's crazy how it seems that every job is the same! There are always gossipers, trouble makers, liars, back stabbers, gold diggers, brown nosers and those that are just trying to make a living & stay out of all the bullshit.

Thank you for your entry into the "MUCK IT" contest!

I never liked that about working and it goes along with any job. I do admire those who can deal with that everyday for 30 or 40 years...amazing. You hit the nail on the head with this one..

The halls of the 12 houses
Jacob's Ladder climbed
The Church hiding in plain sight
Sodomy and gluttony within the ranks of the PAPAL Empire
So they spin more shite
If is Irony too much...

But much love to you is Righteous,
Robin...S O L I D !

u really did an good job as far as describing what that branch of the social spectrum is really like. Its vicious, almost primitive and primal in nature.
