The Shroud of Turin (Sonnet)

The Shroud of Turin (Sonnet)

Poem about Jesus

The Shroud of Turin (Sonnet)

Did He anticipate that we would find
solutions to the bloody imprint He
laid down upon the cloth, unless we're  blind
and can't discern the truth?  Is what we see

an artist's painting touched with ochre red
or blood that's real, but has not oxidized?
Will science find a man who's long been dead,
yet shown us proof that He was brutalized?

The linen weave entwined with cotton may
have skewed the Carbon dating some opine,
but skeptics say it's just a fake and they
doubt its pollen came from Palestine.

Will we know soon the truth about the Shroud
or must we wait 'til every knee has bowed?

hi Tamara! be well and hopeful .. and Merry Christmas :) I am not one to comment on the correctness of the form so will not try .. it reads smooth and rhythmically as sonnets should .. you have done a really good job putting it in everyday language .. not easy to do .. seems the sonnet almost forces us to rely on "thees" and "thou s" and "wouldst" and "didst" ..which is almost cheating in my opinion anyway ;) you tackle a controversial theme in the Shroud ... those who do not believe in the Divinity of Christ will love to debate the issue and those of Faith to defend it .. me thinks it can almost be a distraction tho .. from the real issue ... Jesus ascended and God's Holy Spirit came down and will ... without force .. do everything to persuade all that we have need of forgiveness .. and a way to resolve that issue ... all other major Religions in the world say work for it ... Jesus Christ taught .. "It is finished" .. the impossible accomplished by Him ... for all ... great job says i .. the shroud must have captured your imagination to have inspired your sonnet .. which is think is well rounded and presented
