Before the morning

Before the morning

A Poem by T

I am

among the many

in these lonely hours

before the moon gives up her place in the sky

before the morning light steals the darkness

and the birds begin their music

in the shadows of the silent hills

while gazing at the endless stars

who meditate on the time placed before them

on the morning and the past

and in measured moments

consider the purpose of their life

the  placement of tomorrow

 and, while in the silence,

wonder at the beauty

and the sorrows

awaiting.....

I’ve never heard anything so simple & yet so meaningful written about those late-night hours of insomnia. This is a great way to conquer the curse of not being able to sleep. I often try to find new ways to write about the night skies, since I spend so much time watching. But here you’ve stripped it down & made it purposeful. If only the rest of us could sort out our late-night thoughts this well, maybe we wouldn’t be plagued by insomnia! This is a favorite take on the late night vigil (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I prefer run-on thoughts in poetry, if done well (as yours is) *smile* Punctuation is overrated!

Count me among the many too. My nights just aren't quite so still or so silent. Beautiful poem. Beautiful meditation.

The poet has said, " It is always darkest before the dawn." But those quiet hours do give us time to reflect and ponder our place in the cosmos, if not in waking meditation, then in the fantasy of dreams, a fine obsevation well penned.
