Too Young

Too Young

A Poem by Emily Irene.
"

About an old friendship that exploded. Recently updated.

"

Perhaps we were too young
to truly know what love is.
We laughed at our parents,
scoffed at their disbelief
of a love so pure and strong
that it burned your veins
when you truly thought about it.

But again,
maybe we were too young
and maybe we thought we knew each other
but in reality,
we were only figments
of the people we wanted to be.

And oh friend,
it seems so long
since I heard your sweet voice.
I made you a birthday card

but I don't intend to send it.
I can't stand the rejection
so I'll put it in the drawer
beneath a few books
and pray that the gods
bring you home to me.

Being young we have the energy and strength to do so much. Love is wasted. Time can be wasted too. Never to young to love. Maybe afraid to open a door that will be hard to close. A excellent poem.
