Mama Said

Mama Said

A Poem by Emily Irene.
"

About how I feel sometimes I have to be silent even though I'm in pain because she's already stressed enough as it is; she doesn't need me begging her to take away a pain she can't control.

"

Mama, oh mama said,

"Daughter of mine,
when your stomach feels full of lead,
when it feels weighed down with hate,
don't forget what I'm telling you
as of late:

Breathe in deep, exhale out,
but darling honey,
please don't shout."

Your mother really told you these words? My father told me(I was raised in Detroit). Hear a gun shot. Take cover. He was a Korea war Vet. I hope you never get in the position of a gun shot wound. Your poem is strong and to the point.
