The Room

The Room

A Poem by Emily Irene.
"

December 2008; about my parent's divorce.

"

All eyes are on us
as we saunter down the aisle
to a fate worse than death;
wringing his hands in anxiety,
accompanied by his lady in waiting.
This court room makes me nervous, mother,
does it cause you anxiety, as well?
This court room terrifies me, mother;
does it scare you, too?
Does it make you feel like it
was all
for nothing?

This is a beautiful poem...and it took me a second to realize it was about divorce. At first, I thought it was about marriage...but I was totally wrong. I love the simplicity, and you ask a great question.
