Love & Hate

Love & Hate

A Poem by Emily Irene.
"

November 2008; inspired by a review someone left me on "Better Off For Leaving."

"

Fast goodbyes
said without thought
to the days ahead of us
are echoing back to me now,
throwing shadows down
on everything we ever had together.

We had no clue
when we said our farewells
that we'd never speak again,
did we, friend?

Thank you for the times,
the laughs,
the chuckles,
the smiles.

You taught me how to love again
and for that
I will always love you
even if I will always
hate you, too.

Uneasy partners, love and hate, but sometimes they are locked within a permanent embrace where first one then the other holds the high ground.

Eventually, I think, because of our own wish for closure, the two will ultimately blend into a mood of interpretive longings.

An inspired piece...delightful to read.
