Love Them and Leave Them

Love Them and Leave Them

A Poem by Emily Irene.
"

November 2008. For my dad. Not too thrilled about this piece, but what the hell, here you are.

"

They got to you,
they stole your love,
they stole our heart.
And you swore to me
back in the day
that it would never happen to you.
Take a long cold look at yourself,
old friend;
you changed on me.
Thank you for the love
when I was younger,
more foolish,
and immature.
But now it is time for us to say goodbye.
Eight years stands between us
and a happy ending.
You will never come home to me,
so go home to them.
Go love them and leave them, too,
you know how good you are at that.

This cuts sharp like a blade.. there is certainly a postive vibe among the sad tones.
Empowering write, very well expressed!
