Kidney Stone

Kidney Stone

A Poem by Emily Irene.
"

About the kidney stone that began more than a decade of medical problems.

"

You lived inside my body for weeks,
a growing ball of filth
traversing my organs.
If I'd known then
what I know now,
I would never have let
the men in white jackets
let such an unwanted guest
grow inside me.

I've heard that
you were shaped like an asteroid,
a jagged evil stone
collecting bile
on your vacation from hell.

It's twelve years later.
My body is still damaged.
And I know I will never feel complete -
not in this lifetime.

Mel's dad (using your account) says:

You are a gifted poet, Emily. I read your poem before I'd had any morning coffee. In my stupor I missed the title and thought it was voiced by a rather evil mother speaking to a hated child. It speaks to the depth of the piece that it works well either way. Thank you for this poem.

Never had a kidney stone...but this a very well written, descriptive piece. Thank you for sharing and please return the favor by reviewing one of my pieces.

Thank you! And I will.
They are pure evil...but you must be the first to immortalize them in cyberspace! Good stuff, Emily!
